Some things happen so perfectly. You could say that some invisible force is pushing them, so that they fit perfectly into something that you have no idea that will happen, or even when it will happen.

The photo was taken by a very good friend of mine, Vasilis Kaloutsikidis. It is very rare indeed to see me in the frame. I am the one sitting bottom right.

Back to 2017
Right in front of me, leaning against the wall, are two Harley Davidson motorcycles, which we had been commissioned to photograph for advertising purposes. The reason I sat down was not because I was tired, but because I had found the ideal position to get a frame exactly the way I wanted it.
That’s the moment when Zois came up behind me, that nice and smart biker with the distinctive appearance and owner of one of the two Harleys. without being noticed he took the same photo as I did, just using his cell phone. He did a great job. Almost as well as I did… The set was completed by Vasilis, who was in the right place, at the right time (mirrored in the upper left) and did the magic click. «So we can have a little backstage» he said. To tell the truth, I don’t remember the other two’s names.

The dawning of a new era
It was at that exact time that I had started telling my students, that even with a simple cell phone we can take stunning photos, as long as the basic rules are followed: framing, focusing, lightmetering, white balance and of cource proper lighting management. At that time, such a point of view was not easily accepted. In the following training periods, more and more people dared and succeeded, just as our friend Zois did that day.

It became a book cover
The coordination of three people helped an image that was destined to become iconic, to be born. Since then, I always put it as first slide in my powerpoint presentations and it also became the cover of my first book for beginners entitled «What’s Going On Behind the Images?», unfortunatelly available only in greek .
